Ramsey-Hunt¢¥s Syndrome after General Anesthesia

Abstract
To emphasize more thoroughness on routine physical examination, this paper reports a case of Ramesy-Hunt¢¥s syndrome which appeared after emergency appendectomy under endotracheal general anesthesia.
A 36 year old house-wife developed right facial palsy on the first postoperative day after uneventful appendectomy for acute appendicitis. The facial palsy was confirmed as herpes oticus with facial palsy due to virus. However, there were no causative and/or predisposing factors in the operative and anesthetic procedures. The patient¢¥s retrospective history noted that she had had otalgia for several days prior to admission, but this was missed on pre-anesthetic physical examination. The facial palsy disappeared completely after physical therapy for three months.
